Trauma-Informed Fitness Coaching
Health and fitness are not fixed points for us to arrive at. They are a reflection of how our bodies are responding to the ebb and flow of life around us. 'Fitness' has come to be synonymous with weight loss, muscle building, strength building, becoming lean, fitness training, etc. While none of these are inherently bad goals to have for your body, typical fitness routines don't really consider what your body is going through as you work towards these goals. In my work with you, as a trauma-informed fitness coach, I will be focusing on more than just that end goal. Along the journey, we will create a more compassionate language and outlook about body and health. You will find me asking questions and encouraging you to get curious about:

Are you feeling anxious, nervous, or apprehensive stepping into the workout space due to past experiences or injuries?
How ready is your body feeling to get into a workout today? Where do we need to meet it?
Are there aspects of your mental health that you are currently struggling with? How are they impacting your body & movement today?

How present are you feeling in your body? How easy is it feeling to arrive in your body?
How are the surrounding sensory input (sounds, lights, music, people), affecting your experience during the training session?
How are you finding the pace, tone, and energy of my instructions? Do you require any adjustments to it?
The goal with trauma-informed fitness coaching is for the both of us to co-create a space where you feel safe and comfortable to work on your physical fitness. We cannot do that from a place of judgement or authority over your body. Yes, fitness is all the 'lean and mean' goals. Fitness is also:
building resilience in your body’s capacity to cope with daily stressors, daily functioning patterns, and regular movements required
inviting movement that helps you go about your day free of pain, with ease, lightness, fluidity
nourishing your nervous system, your mind, and your emotional body
learning how to say no when you’re pushing from a space of exhaustion
learning how to challenge your body with love, and
learning how to move better so you can reclaim areas of your life that you gave up on - willingly or unwillingly.
You don’t have to blindly give your power away to any coach or space that tells you what your goals 'should be' & that there’s only one way to get there. Fitness can be a sacred space to build a deeper, closer relationship with your own body. Here, we acknowledge that life affects how we show up to workout, and that our bodies' health and needs lie on a diverse spectrum.

What To Expect
We start with learning about your movement and health background. The first session is typically a gentle assessment to help you get familiar with the space.
Based on your fitness needs and how you're feeling each session, we will create and adjust a training program for you. I use a combination of bodyweight exercises, minimal available equipment, and mobility training to help you develop a balanced practice. This includes not only strength training but also restorative practices grounded in movement science and your body's wisdom.

Client Experiences
"Yesterday, I was feeling super low post 5pm. And couldn’t stop thinking about it. But today when I met you, I worked out. I felt so much better and have completely forgotten about it. More than calories and getting in shape, you and this workout is helping me gain so much positive energy. It would have taken me the whole weekend to get this energy if I was not working out."

"Prior to training with you, I used to do intense cardio workouts where I would die in 30 mins. Breaking into a massive sweat and feeling that I can’t do anything anymore was my notion of pulling in a kickass workout. But doing a more balanced functional workout with you, I’ve kind of broken my own stigma that you need to die in order for benefits to accrue. And I think that your constant form correction in each and every exercise has made a world of difference. I'm so glad."
